This is the legendary guitar player Andrew "Duck" MacDonald's biography as told by him, in his own words.

I started my career in upstate N.Y. working in various bands with Joey DeMaio and Eric Adams ("Manowar"). My first break came when Ross the Boss joined "Manowar" and left the French band "Shakin Street". Joey gave the manager (Sandy Pearlman manager of (Blue Oyster Cult,Black Sabbath) my name. I auditioned for the band in San Francisco and got the gig. I then toured the U.S. with "Black Sabbath" and "Blue Oyster Cult" on the 1980 Black and Blue tour, after that tour I did a headlining tour of France.
When "Shakin Street" broke up I returned to the U.S. and started a band with Gary Driscoll and Craig Gruber {drums and bass for (Elf, Richie Blackmores Rainbow) called "Bible Black" we had two different vocalists; first was Jeff Fenholt {Jesus Christ Superstar} then Joey Belladonna (Anthrax). I only wish I would have known Shmoulik then, that band was perfect for him.
Shortly after "Bible Black" disbanded I received a call from Carl Canedy ("The Rods") to do a solo project with him called "Thrasher". The idea was to have lots of musicians to come in and do different songs, I really liked the idea so we went to work, wrote the songs and called the musicians. Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth Band,Talas), Mars Cowlin (Pat Travers Band), Kenny Aaronson {HSAS}, Ned Meloni {"Joe Lynn Turner Band"}, Dickie Peterson ("Blue Cheer"). Brad Sinsel ("Tko"), Dan Beehler ("Exciter"}, Kim Simonds ("Savoy Brown"}, Danny Spitz ("Anthrax"}, Gary Driscoll (Elf,Rainbow), Rhett Forrester ("Riot"). The album was released on Combat, Music for Nations in 1985.
As a next project I recorded a 12"single with "The Rods" and Jon Zazula (Mega Force Records) called "Metal Rap" one of the first recordings of this union of styles.
After these records were completed Arnie Goodman {Kim Simonds manager} and Kim contacted me through Carl and told me about a new band Kim was putting together called "KSB" {Kim Simonds Band} that was more rock, metal based than "Savoy Brown" and asked me to join along with Gary Bordonaro ("The Rods") and Joe Haselvander (Raven,Pentagram) then Junior Romanelli ("The Plasmatics") replaced Gary on bass. Working with Joe , Gary and Junior was great and I am a big fan of Kim's from my younger years and really enjoyed working with him. Kim was also producing an album at this time called Slider and asked me to play along with John Gallagher (Raven) and Bob 'Syd' Falk ("Overkill").
When Kim decided to reform "Savoy Brown" {which wasn't really my forte} we parted ways, but still remain very good friends. This is the time when Shmoulik (Picture, The Rods) and I met, we did a live tour with The Rods, then decided to do a project of our own called "Avigal" with drummer Pete Mendillo (Savoy Brown, Survivor), we did record a demo of 5 songs, that sounded very commercial, a fact that scared us so bad that we decided to can the whole thing.
Soon after Arnie Goodman called me and said Dickie Peterson was trying to contact me, as we met during the "Thrasher" project, shared a bottle of Jack Daniels and became friends, alas I became the new guitarist for "Blue Cheer". The first thing we did was a tour of Germany and recorded a live album called "BLITZKRIEG OVER NUREMBURG" in 1988, three years later we did a studio album called "HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIVES" produced by Jack Endino (Nirvana,Screaming Trees) and then a long European tour. We came back to the States and did The Rock N Roll Shootout Tour with Foghat, The Outlaws, Leslie West and Toy Caldwell.
After this tour, in 1992 I moved to Florida to start my own band called "Playground". I built a studio and put out the first CD called "SIGN O THE TIMES". Three years later I did another CD called "AND THE GODS THEY PLAY" on this CD I enlisted the mixing skills of Bryan New (Def Lepard,Whitesnake,The Cure). In 1999 Dickie called me to do a tour of Japan and a live CD "HELLO TOKYO BYE BYE OSAKA". Back in Florida I finished up another "Playground" CD called "D-EVILUTION" . Bryan and I then began working together on TV and Movie scores for ZOMBA Publishing (X-Files, 13 Ghosts, The Shield etc.etc).
I soon moved back to N.Y. I am still working with "Blue Cheer" we released a new live CD in 2005 " BOOTLEG LIVE " a new DVD to be released " HISTORY OF BLUE CHEER " and a new studio CD in 2006 So stay heavy and I will keep you posted.
